February 28 Sad ThoughtsI am one of the fortunate few who can say that I like my job. I like who I work with. I like the people who volunteer to work here. I like getting to meet people from all over the world. I like making people feel welcome.
I'm going to miss this place a whole lot when we move. I just keep telling myself that I'll be back. And maybe when I come back, I'll even get to do some sail training. This year, before I leave, I might be lucky enough to get to sail once more. And even though I'd be working while we were sailing, I'd be out there.
That's it for now. February 24 This Is How It StartsSo, I just got an email from my husband, which, in and of itself is a rarity. It contained a picture of random stuff found in the drain of the shower. I thought it was just an email/pic that was being forwarded to me and everyone on the planet. Until I really looked at the picture and realised that it was MY shower and that MY son had stuffed these random things down. Need I say that I.Am.SO.Embarrassed?! And my husband... he even very kindly labled things for me so that I could more readily identify the objects. Anyway, here is the email and pic. Don't laugh too hard.
"random things...THAT YOU FIND IN THE SHOWER DRAIN! I was wondering to myself why the shower wasnt draining, to my surprise this is what i found. I tried many different things to get this stuff out. plunger was the best thing. it's how i was able to grab the bottle before it sucked back down. "
"ps...we need more soap.i love you." February 18 The Nin~a, The Pinta and the Santa Maria...I got to take my two and a half year old onto the replica of the Nin~a today. It was my second visit but Benjamin's first. If she is EVER near you... pay whatever you have to and Go See Her!
We all know about Christopher Columbus' voyage to the New World with his three ships: the Nina, the Pinta and the Santa Maria. But how many of us really *know* the true size of those ships back in 1492? If you're like me, a) you had no freakin' clue but b) now DO (especially if you've already clicked on that link to the ship). I have some photos and will try to post them now in a new album. They're worth the wait so please be patient :) February 01 Why, It's Almost Like, Being, In LoveThat's the song that's running through my head right now. So it made me think about if it's true or not: IS it almost like being in love? Have I had a swell day? Ya know? It was a pretty damn cool day, if I do say so!
I got to see my husband and adoarable child two extra times today while we played Chinese Fire Drill with the car.
I got to meet our sailmaker, Jim Brink, today. He's the cool guy who repairs and makes the sails that we use to sail the ELISSA. And he arrived today from California, having driven in his van so that he could bring the tools of the trade with him. He'll need them for the three weeks or so that he'll be with us. Have I mentioned yet that he made the sails used in Pirates of the Carribean and Master and Commanders?
And there I was in the kitchen, picking up the trash that had spilled over the trash can... and I was humming and singing that song!
So I leave you with this: what a day this has been, .....
..... why it's almost like being in love! |
